BARNS ON COUNTRY PROPERTY CAN MAKE GREAT ART STUDIOS

Whether it is an existing barn or you choose to build a new structure, a small barn can make an ideal studio. We have frequently participated in the sale of country property where a barn is the only initial structure on the property.  Even in a town like Healdsburg, CA, some ‘in-town’ properties have barns left over from earlier times on lots as small as one acre or less.  Visiting Artists looks throughout Sonoma and Napa County for properties that have ‘outbuildings’ that can be used as studios – let us know if you have one.

VISITING ART COMMUNITIES IN THE WHITE VILLAGES OF SOUTHERN SPAIN

We have traveled to the white villages in the mountains of Andalusia overlooking the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Africa for over 40 years. Close friends live in the village of Gaucin in the province of Málaga inland from Marbella, Puerto Banús and Estepona and not far from Ronda. The village has a population of approximately 2,000. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K05Kz9YRg5I.

The history of the area going back to Phoenician and Roman times, the unspoiled hills and the convenience to Malaga, Gibraltar, Seville have always been major attractions for us. Many times, we have considered staying for several months of the year and setting up a studio. The fact that there is a thriving art community in the village (https://artgaucin.com) with artists from many countries makes this plan compelling.  Another significant factor is the improvement in communications and travel over the last twenty years that allows us to stay completely in touch with business in California.

This year Gaucin will have the annual Open Studios May 24, 25, 26 and June 1st and 2nd.  Certainly looking forward to that. Hopefully we will be able to participate in the 2025 event.

SMALL INDUSTRIAL SPACE FOR ECONOMICAL ART STUDIOS

In a community like Healdsburg, California, real estate can be quite expensive.  That said, there are frequently industrial properties for lease within the downtown area where less than 1500sf can be leased or purchased at reasonable rates and may work for the mediums an artist works with.  Visiting Artists is always on the lookout for property in the walk-around area of Healdsburg that may be available for our member artists.  Please feel free to e-mail Visiting Artists at [email protected] if you have interest in this type of space in the central area of Healdsburg.
